ProcessingCommand -at amount of time BEFORE recording starts

Post by Hominidae » Fri May 24, 2013 10:10 pm

Hi dot-i,

I would like to propose a new ProcessingCommand category "ahead of time when recording starts".
This would allow to issue a command at a specific amount of time ahead of the recording,
Like issue the command i.e. 5 mins before the actual recording start (pre-process time) is scheduled.

My UseCase behind that is to use this feature to wake up my NAS before the recording would start.
In order to do that, I then plan to simply include a WOL command.
This would allow me to let my NAS go to sleep when idle and save some energy ;-)

In addition, I am thinking of separating ARGUS Backend too (DB+Schedule+Webb-Access into one host and ARGUS-Recorder into another).
This would possibly allow me to sleep/wakeup my recorder (which also consumes some considerable amount of energy when running idle).

...but using it for my NAS is a good reason alone for some future energy savings.

Thanks for considering this.

Edit: I take it the existing category "run when recording starts (live)" would not add a
safety timeframe ahead, like enabling the NAS to fire up and spinup drives and such?!?!
