The latest test build Red did uses a method that doesn't support Windows - the problem it addresses was specific to Linux. I suspect your problem is completely unrelated.

I tried replacing the pvr.argustv folder with the one built by wileecoyote but unfortunately XBMC is unable to load the addon and therefore disables it:

Right, that addon shouldn't work in Windows. I'm surprised Wile got it to compile, his kung-fu must be better than mine. Looks like a Posix reference snuck in so it should only compile under gcc/Linux.

I still think you are chasing down the wrong problem. The buffer issue that version addresses has nothing to do with Windows. Hard to say for sure though, so there's an older Windows version floating around, you could try that one. I think Wile still has that on his page.

I've setup a new Windows 7 machine with (antique ) VS2010. I will fetch the XBMC Frodo code and the ARGUS addon code. Then build it for Windows to see what problems are remaining.

This will go slow, next week I'm off to the Microsoft TechEd 2013 in Madrid. http://europe.msteched.com/
