Hi sgibbers
You seem to have very similar thoughts... :)
My XMLTV grabber is WebGrab+Plus. The grabber features post processing, means it can grab episode & season numbers.
By the way: to me this is the best grabber I've ever seen (featuring incremental build, etc)
BUT: the config file for TheTVDB is not existing, I tried to build it approx. a year ago and failed, I'm not specialist enough in complex RegEx expressions.
AND: I don't know, which fields to fill in for that Argus can retrieve it through "episodenumer" and "seasonnumber" which you then could use in post processing of Argus.
That was my plan... and thought of it the last days when you brought this topic up again. That would even be better, as it would fill in your XMLTV guide for all shows with the right numbers - no service running all the time
Three sources to read about it:
- WebGrab+Plus HP: http://webgrabplus.com
- WebGrab+Plus Forums (not very lively): http://webgrabplus.com/forum
- a quite "living" thread in the MediaPortal forums: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threa ... bber.88425

Let's exchange us, if you find it useful - together we can rock it :)

I'll try giving WebGrab+Plus a try again on Sunday. I tried a few days ago for a short time and gave up because I needed to go to work. It seemed more complicated than guide enhancer and didn't look to far into it.

Unfortunately, it IS far more complicated (at least, to me), if you want to exceed the simple grabbing. Looking forward to read from you.

I was able to get WebGrab+Plus up and running using the tvguide.com instead of zap2it. For some reason their site list zap2it as the only US site avalible to grab network channels, which I found no longer works with WebGrab. Also you need to register with zap2it to use it and they are not accepting new users, tvguide.com does not.

The only thing I cared about was that the season and episode numbers were being grabbed correctly and WebGrab with tvguide dose this correctly.

Hey sgibbers, would you mind zipping & dropping the config of postprocessing cmd here? Very cool...

I disabled the post processor, I kept getting a invalid URI (not URL, odd) for most shows and really didn't add value to me. But the tvguide.ini grabs the season and episode numbers for all the shows I care about.

How do you import the guide.xml? I noticed that the incremental update didn't work when I had it save directly to the XMLTV folder because the file gets moved right when it is saved. I have it saved to the default location and created a scheduled task to run a .bat file to copy it over to the XMLTV folder.

If we want to discuss WebGrab+Plus further maybe start a new thread, I think this is getting off topic and others can help out, I did learn a lot from setting it up.

Re: tvtoday grabbing updated for Argus

Post by Christoph21x » Tue Jul 15, 2014 7:51 pm

Hi All

I updated the ini files for WG++ with Argus for TVtoday.
WG++ and thus Argus now retrieves correctly season & episode number.

Features:
  • Site: TVtoday.de / language: German
  • Season/episode number is read correctly and can be used from Scheduler Console --> Recording File Formats:
If you use for example s%%SERIES2%%e%%EPISODENUMBER2%%-%%LONGTITLE%% - you'll get "s01e08-<long title of recording>.ts" as recording file name
  • episode number is shown in upcomings - easier to find duplicates:
    Upcomings.png
    Upcomings.png (71.5 KiB) Viewed 16919 times
  • Season and episode number are added as text to the discription like "(Staffel 1, Folge 8)":
    Description.png
    Description.png (3.2 KiB) Viewed 16919 times
Please note, that the fact, if there's absolute numbering or relative numbering (relative to the season), is defined by the site owner.
You can use this in schedules, alerts and/or suggestions using the field: "Program info Contains" adding for example "Staffel 1 OR Staffel 2" (without quotes) - only shows of season 1 and 2 will be recorded. You can use ADD, OR, NOT in this field - other than in the Episode number field (which supports only OR).
Episode info field CANNOT be used with this - only usable with text-only season/episode info - this one is numeric.
eg: Create an alert for all starting series: "Program info Contains" and add "Staffel 1 AND Folge 1" (without quotes)
Please find attached updated ini files and report any error, please.

Kind regards - Chris

Webgrab+Plus, in UK, XBMC - missing Season/Episode info .

Post by elsmandino » Mon Aug 11, 2014 10:20 am

Hi,

Having not really got on with Webgrab+Plus the first time I used it, I gave it another go and it works really well.

My only problem is no matter what source I use for the grabbing (Sky, TVGuide, RadioTimes), the Season and Episode information is always missing from any recording I make and view back on XBMC. This a problem if Argus records a series in a non-sequential order.

The Episode information is definitely there as it appears under the title in the Argus Scheduler.

Is there a way of injecting the missing information back into the title, so rather than "Top Gear" it says "Top Gear (S01E02)"?

Thanks v much.

If your site.ini is capable of grabbing the season and episode info (the tvguide.com.ini does for me) you can change the way the file is saved. In the scheduling console under recording file name formats you need to add %%SERIESx%% and %%EPISODENUMBERx%% where the x is 1, 2, or 3 for the number of digits you want like 1, 01, or 001.

for example here is the way I save files

Code: Select all

%%TITLE%%\s%%SERIES2%%e%%EPISODENUMBER2%% - %%LONGTITLE%%_%%CHANNEL%%_%%DATE%%_%%HOURS%%-%%MINUTES%%

folder: The Big Bang Theory\
file : s01e02 - The Big Bang Theory (The Big Bran Hypothesis - 2)_18.1 KLJB Fox_2014-07-18_18-00.ts
In XBMC the live TV Recording section does not show season and episode numbers so to get around this I added my recording directory to the library and watch them this way. You can also watch them using XMBC's file explorer.

check your XMLTV file and look for episode number info. if you do a search for episode and you should see a number like this 2.5 for example. This number is season-1.episode-1 so season 1 episode 1 is 0.0. Argus TV interprets this number correctly so 2.5 in the XMLTV file Argus TV displays it as season 3 episode 6. If your site.ini does not have it in this format I do not believe that Argus will be able to save the season and episode numbers in the way you want.

Hi sgibbers,

Thanks very much for the update and the very clear explanation.

So ultimately, I should avoid the Live TV Recordings add-on and just add it as a video file (which I can scrape in XBMC for details anyway) - very clever.

Just one quick further question - why TVGuide over some of the other available sites? Is it because it definitely works with Argus and has so many available channels?

Also, I note that there are two available channels - tvguide.co.uk-full and tvguide.co.uk.

What is the difference and which should I use?
