Again many thanks for the information.

It seems logical, then, that the problem is that for whatever reason, XBMC isn't able to play back a buffer file. Gives me somewhere to look at to continue trying to debug this problem!

Out of interest, are you aware of Mac users who are able to play live tv without problems? Might help narrow down the problem further knowing if this is a blanket Mac problem, or one specific only to certain machines.

Thanks again for all your help and knowledge on this!

Did anyone get anywhere with this?

I've just moved to Argus TV and live TV works fine on my Windows machine, but I get 30 seconds of Live TV on my Macs before it freezes, buffers 0% and then drops back to the channel list.

One Mac running Lion 10.7.5 / XBMC 12.2 / Argus TV Client 1.6.165
The other running ML 10.8.4 / XBMC 12.2 / Argus TV Client 1.6.165

(EDIT: I installed XBMC 12.0 and live TV works with that)

I eventually switched to MediaPortal for my live tv needs (though I still use Argus for recording!) Looks like it uses a similar method to Argus - a Tsbuffer and .ts file, connecting over SMB shares but, well, it works on the mac. I remain hopeful one of these days an XBMC update will magically fix this!

Just stumbled across this as I've been having the same problem. I had been using the Gotham nightlies as 12.2 didn't work. I've recently restored my mac and gave 12.3 a go, but having the same issues as described here.

Don't suppose anyone has managed to find a workaround have they?

I really would stick with Gotham if I were you. It looks like XBMC file access API is more robust with Gotham.

Yeah I've put one of the recent nightlies on since I posted, but it still has the same issue.

Just wanted to mention that I'm also having this problem.

OSX 10.9.2
XBMC 13.1.0 x86_64
Argus TV client plug-in 1.9.174
Argus TV server 2.2.2

The server is on a Win7 machine within the gigabit LAN. My Macbook can see the timeshift share, and can tune the channel for just over 30 seconds before the buffer files disappear from the timeshift share and the client freezes for buffering, and then times out to the EPG.

Feels like the server missing some sort of heartbeat from the client and shutting the recording down, but honestly I have no idea.

Yes, that sounds like the keep-alive thread is either not running, or not communicating with the server indeed.

Can you make and put a debug log on http://xbmclogs.com/ and post the link to that log here please?

Regrettably I don't own a mac and building+testing on a simulated OSX on Virtual Box is a major .... ;)

Cheers,
Fred

Sure. I've pasted my most recent logs to: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=167147. If there's anything else I can do to debug or help, just let me know.
