About

The Settings page, has some extremely useful settings in it which will help you get the most out of your setup.

Schedules

This section allows you to set default settings for schedules. Every new schedule will start with these settings. If you need different settings for a schedule, enter them when (or after) the schedule is created.

  • Pre-record:/Post-record: The length of time to record before and after the show. Entering a value over rides the global settings. See ICN WIKI INLINE.PNG Pre/Post-record for a full explanation of pre and post record.
  • Keep: Rules for how long to keep the recording(s).

TV Guide

Allows you to express your preference concerning guide data.

Recording Conflicts

These settings allow you to control the way programs are scheduled and assigned to the available recorder/tuner(s).

  • Always adjust or drop pre/post-record for consecutive recordings
If checked, two consecutive recordings, on any channels, will have their pre/post-record settings altered so they are not recording at the same time. This can be useful if you have a limited number of tuners, and often get "no free card" errors during pre/post-record.
  • Adjust or drop pre/post-record for recordings only in case of a conflict
If checked, pre/post-record will be modified if possible, to prevent a conflict occurring.
  • Drop pre/post-record for consecutive recordings only on the same channel
If checked, pre/post-record between two consecutive recordings on the same channel be dropped. This is useful if the user has limited space on the recording disk, as it prevents parts of shows being recorded twice, due to the overlap of shows and pre/post-record. The compromise is, the user may have to watch the other consecutive recording to see the beginning or end of the show they have recorded.
  • Swap recorder/tuner priority for recordings to avoid conflicts
If checked, which is default and recommended, ARGUS TV will take the highest priority (topmost) available card for recordings and the lowest priority (downmost) available card for live TV. This is done to minimize the chance of conflicts between recordings and live TV. If this setting is unchecked, which is NOT recommended, lowest priority available card is used for both recording and live TV.

Disk Space

These settings are the limits for ARGUS TV's disk space usage. This function is designed to help prevent ARGUS TV running out of space for new recordings. It would also be possible to use these settings to prevent ARGUS TV consuming too much disk space.

  • Free disk space: Is the trigger for ARGUS TV to start deleting “old” recordings that were created with the keep until setting (see scheduling options) “until disk space needed”. This cleanup will happen as needed, and is checked every 5 minutes.
  • Minimum free disk space: When your storage has reached this amount of free disk space, recordings will no longer start.

Power Management

Allows you to specify how early to wake the machine in the event a recording is scheduled. This can be very useful if your machine is slow to boot.

Recordings

  • Automatically create thumbnails for all television recordings
If checked, ARGUS TV will call automatically create thumbnails for all television recordings when they finish.
  • Always create .arg metadata files (also on NTFS volumes)
If checked, ARGUS TV will generate accompanying .atv metadata files for all recordings. These files contain information about the recording, such as when it was recorded, what schedule recorded it, how long to keep it, etc. If your recordings are stored on a NTFS volume, this information is written to an invisible XML file and stored with the recording in a ICN WEB INLINE.PNG NTFS Alternate Data Stream. If your recordings are stored on another type of volume, such as Fat32 or ZFS, the .arg file will be automatically generated.

ARGUS TV Server

The "(Re)connect" button allows you to re-establish a connection with the server.

If you are a 'Donator' to the ARGUS TV Project (and why wouldn't you be with such a great product) you can have ARGUS TV check for beta updates as well as normal updates.

E-mail Server (SMTP)

ARGUS TV can send you an e-mail when something requires your attention. In this section you can specify how ARGUS TV can reach you by sending mail. For example, if you have a Gmail account, you have to fill in the following settings:

Email setup.PNG

Using the Send Test Mail button, you can request ARGUS TV to send you an email.

Messenger

This section is where you enter the Windows Live Messenger login details.

ARGUS TV has the ability to use a Windows Live Messenger account and "chat" with you. The ARGUS TV Messenger gives a lot of functionality through a simple chat window. See ICN WIKI INLINE.PNG the ARGUS TV Messenger Wiki page for a full explanation of how it works.

  • Bot Account: The login for the account ARGUS TV Messenger will sign in to and use. Usually __???__@windowslive.com.
  • Password: The password for the account ARGUS TV Messenger will sign in to and use.
  • Send Alerts: If there is a program alert, ARGUS TV Messenger will contact you before the program starts. This specifies when the alert will be sent.
  • Bot contact list: The address(s) that ARGUS TV Messenger will contact if there is an alert.
