About

The ARGUS TV Recorder settings page is used to set the global settings for ARGUS TV Recorder. Some of these settings, such as file paths, can be overridden in other places.

ARGUS TV Recorder. Settings.

ARGUS TV Scheduler Service

Server: The machine that has (or will have) the ARGUS TV Scheduler Server installed. If you have a single seat installation, or ARGUS TV Scheduler Server installed on the same machine as ARGUS TV Recorder, the server name will be localhost. Use "(Re)Connect Now" button to apply any changes.

TCP port: The port ARGUS TV is configured to use. Unless you have activly chosen another port during installation, this setting will not need changing.

ARGUS TV Recorder

Service: The information for the Recorder Service on the machine you are connected to. The "(Re)Connect Now" button allows you to reconnect to the service on the current machine, or connect to a different machine.

Timeshifting

Timeshift path: is where the timeshift files for Live-TV will be written. Although this is a global setting, cards can have their own custom settings that will override the global setting.

As a UNC Share: is the path ARGUS TV will use to access the folder. The box will turn green if the path is a valid UNC path. A green box is not an indication of the path being properly shared or accessible, see ICN WIKI INLINE.PNG Shared Folders.

Recordings

Recordings path: is where recording files will be written. Although this is a global setting, cards can have their own custom settings that will override the global setting.

DVB-EPG

Allows you to specify when and how often EPG grabbing should occur. This setting comes in handy when you want to avoid collecting EPG information while you are watching live TV. (To get some performance gain for example )

Start guide grabbing at: The start time for the daily grabbing window.

Keep grabbing for: The duration of the daily grabbing window.

Grab channels every: How often Argus will attempt to grab updated channel data.

Prefered language/(2nd)/(3rd): The preferred language(s) for guide data. Useful if your guide data is broadcast in several languages.

Country: This is only used to pick up the correct "Parental-rating age" for your coutnry, if found (otherwise it falls back to the first rating found).

Clear EPG Cache button: ....

Advanced

Default text encoding: This setting affects the way the EPG information is stored and displayed.

Delay Int after a resume: The time to wait before re-detecting cards after resume. It can be useful if you have a tuner card that is slow to initialise.

Live TV timeshifting uses: Sets the number of timeshift files and their size. The values are per timeshift instance. Unless you are experiencing issues, it is recommended that you do not alter these settings Altering these values can break timeshifting.

Allow EPG grabbing on recordings & live TV: This allows ARGUS TV to use a tuner that is in currently use to also be used for EPG grabbing. This can create performance issues, like stuttering, on some systems.

Timeshifting Files Explained

ARGUS TV initially creates two files per timeshifting instance, and will create extra files as needed, eventually creating one full set of files per timeshifting instance. For example, with the default settings, starting a stream on client one, will create two files and will grow to four files.

Starting a second stream on client two will create an additional set of files (two initially, growing to four) giving an eventual total of 8 files.

Starting a third stream on client three, would result in a final total of twelve files, and so on.

If you stop a stream on a client, ARGUS TV to delete it's timeshift files. So if you only ever watch one TV at a time, you will only ever have one set of timeshift files.

There are some restrictions on the number and size of timeshift files.

  • You must have 2 or more timeshift files. (This is/was a limitation of ARGUS TV's MediaPortal Plugin)
  • Files are limited to 2GB (2048 MB) maximum. (This is a limitation due to the way the value is stored in ARGUS TV)

The limit of 2048 MB has not been tested and confirmed by this author, it may in fact be slightly smaller. If you confirm the limit, please correct this section and remove this box, or just let us know in the ICN FORUM INLINE.PNG Forum
