TBS DVB-S2 issue in 2.2.1?

Post by steford » Sun Jan 12, 2014 2:09 pm

Upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2.1 last night. All went well except I lost my single satellite channel (BBC4HD) on my 1 satellite card (TBS6920). Thinking it may have been a dish alignment problem I checked the feed into a STB - no problem there. Scanned a DVB-S transponder and Argus found the channels correctly with full signal strength. Tried another DVB-S2 transponder and nothing. "No Signal" message is shown when scanning from Recorder Console . I have checked parameters in satellites.xml file and they are correct. Card has latest drivers and has given no issues previously with DVB-S2 or HD.

Log shows:

Code: Select all

2014-01-11 22:19:02,751 [INFO ][Graph]: Tuning to BBC FOUR HD
2014-01-11 22:19:02,751 [DEBUG][Graph]: Tuning to 11023000 LinearH 23000 Rate2_3 Mod8Psk
2014-01-11 22:19:02,751 [INFO ][Graph]: TBS: SetDvbS2 succeeded
2014-01-11 22:19:02,751 [DEBUG][Graph]: Set DVB-S2 modulation to Mod8Psk Off ThirtyFive

2014-01-11 22:19:04,767 [DEBUG][Graph]: Stopping graph
Any help appreciated.

Any thoughts on this? Have been through everything I can think of. Resetting card, updated driver etc. Definitely looks like the only difference is S2 rather than S. Can anyone else replicate this issue at all? Thanks.

I can tune to HD services successfully with my setup on A-TV 2.2.1
Are you sure that the service was actually transmitting at that time? AFAIR some BBC service do not broadcast 24/7

Edit: works for me:

Yes thought of that. It will tune no channels on S2 transponders giving "No Signal". All channels on DVB-S are fine. I've switched back to Freeview for now but it looks like a downgrade is my only option which I'm really reluctant to do.

This may be TBS specific as TBS cards are mentioned in the changelog. In my old logs when S2 was working I see

Code: Select all

2014-01-04 20:57:59,214 [INFO ][Graph]: Tuning to BBC FOUR HD
2014-01-04 20:57:59,214 [DEBUG][Graph]: Tuning to 11023000 LinearH 23000 Rate2_3 Mod8Psk
2014-01-04 20:57:59,214 [DEBUG][Graph]: Set DVB-S2 modulation to Mod8Psk Off ThirtyFive
2014-01-04 20:57:59,214 [DEBUG][Graph]: Starting graph
2014-01-04 20:57:59,256 [INFO ][Graph]: Signal locked, quality: 98%, strength: 98
etc etc
whereas in the new logs the "TBS: SetDvbS2 succeeded" line appears. This suggests something new is happening although the next DEBUG line is the same.

No, I am using a digital-device quad tuner card.
Initially I started with a TBS quad some two years ago, but it refused to work with my diseqc setup / multiswitch.
I returned it and went for the dd (which is more expensive though).

...but you stated it *did* work with A-TV2.1.
It definitely is not a problem of A-TV2.2.1 in general, but maybe in combination with your TBS.

Been running fine until the upgrade. I avoided 2.2 in case of bugs. Took the plunge with 2.2.1 and encountered my first major one. Looking back at old dlls to see if I can isolate the issue.

With TBS cards in the changelog and the new TBS S2 entry in the logs it looks like something is not quite right there to me.

Yep, you have a point there.
What card model is it exactly, just for the record (no pun intended :D )

TBS6920 single DVB-S2. I use terrestrial almost exclusively with a twin DVB-T and a single DVB-T2. Recent changes means BBC4HD is on a different mux to the other BBC HD channels so I can't record BBC1HD at the same time as BBC4HD - a frequent occurence. A week or so ago I decided BBC4HD was best tuned using satellite so it could be recorded concurrently. Unfortunately the latest Argus seems to have scuppered my plans.

Just had a go at swapping in some old dlls but got nasty crashes so am leaving it.

Any help appreciated. I think it's one for dot-i when he has a moment.

Thanks.

Seems to work for me for BBC Four HD using 2.2.1, a TBS6981 and the latest driver...sort of:

However, for some reason I'm getting video/audio break-up when the signal strength/quality is OK.

Also, and I don't know if it's related, I'm wondering why I'm getting "TBS: CAM detected" and the multiple "TBS: StartDecodingProgram called for 1 program(s)" entries that follow when I don't have a CAM and BBC Four HD is FTA?

DVB-S seems fine with the same tuner...and has none of the CAM messages:

Thanks for trying. It definitely looks like TBS issues for those of us that had none whilst other TBS issues may have been fixed. I can live with BBC4 in SD again for now but really hope dot-i can get round to looking at this significant issue given the general popularity of TBS cards. Mine is currently doing nothing meaning I am a whole tuner down.

Thankfully my DVB-T and DVB-T2 TBS tuners still work correctly.

Thanks again.
