Error emails and recording failures

Post by quartermain » Mon Dec 08, 2014 9:16 pm

Had a whole slew of emails last night at 20:59, 21:00, 21:59, 22:00 and 22:09 - seven in all. At least one coincided with a missing recording.

The mails say:

RT: ARGUS TV on mamba reported the following error (07/12/2014 20:59:10):
Card TBS 6285 DVBT/T2 Tuner A returned Card error : ProgramNotFound
Your ARGUS TV system may require your attention!

Could these have any connection with me a) using a 4Gb Ram disk as a timeshift buffer, or b) recording directly to a NAS on the other end of a Powerline Ethernet connection? Both ends of the Powerline Ethernet have Gigabit interfaces and the manufacturer (Solwise) claims 130 Mbit/sec.

A restart of the PC seems to have fixed it.

Unbelievable - I just checked my email and there have been three more, at 18:59 and 19:00 today. They coincide with a scheduled recording of The Gadget Show which does not show under Active Recordings.

If I go into Recorder Console, Tuner Cards->Status, then select a card and a service and click Record, I get "The recording could not be started. The service's PMT was not found".

And this morning - no live TV. XBMC just gave me an Argus TV Client error. Yet another reboot fixed that. Fingers crossed.

Recordings don't use the timeshift buffer, so the RAM disk isn't the issue in this particular instance.

Recording to a remote machine may well be the problem.
The first thing I'd do is set the record path to a local disk and test it.
If it works, you have an issue with the NAS or the connection to it. Diagnosing networking issues can be challenging.
You can fix it, or you can fix it until it's broken. I usually choose the latter.
