So start a stream and then ask VLC to open it from a different pc? Not sure I know what you mean.

That could work. What we're trying to do is prove that the HTPC has access to the shares.

If the HTPC is Windows based, I'd install the Scheduler Console (and VLC) and test whether it can start and open the stream.
If it's not Windows based, I'd start a stream on another machine (the server will do) and ask VLC on the HTPC to open it.

I'm not 100% certain about what ports are what, but they will be correct.

Ok well I have tried the Scheduler on another Windows PC and the live stream works (although it is quite choppy).

I will try it on the HTPC (its linux but I get what you are saying, start the live stream and then point the VLC on my linux pc to the file..)

Just out of interest, could it be a difference in the ports I am using. So to connect on the XBMC I am using the default port (49943 is it, can't remember) but on my recorder console its 49952 and scheduler its 49942? (just thinking out loud here)

Right well to just finish it off, just put XBMC on my laptop and it connected straight through to argus and played my stream.

I didn't set up the add-on any different than I did on my htpc.

So must be a share thing?

Solved it.

For some reason when using Argus on XBMC/Linux my server name has to be case sensitive, where as when watching anything else it doesn't!
