Install order (important information)

The order which you install ARGUS TV and some connecting components, is important. Most importantly, ARGUS TV must be installed after MediaPortal. If you update or reinstall MediaPortal, you will need to reinstall ARGUS TV. You can safely reinstall ARGUS TV without losing most settings.

The Ideal install order is as follows:

• Create Shares. (optional on Single seat setups)
• Dot NET.
• SQL (optional step if using MediaPortal TV Server)
• MediaPortal. (optional)
• ARGUS TV.
• Windows Media Center plugin. (optional)
• XBMC. (optional)

MediaPortal

The installation of MediaPortal is optional. If you do not wish to use either portion of it, you may skip this step.

MediaPortal consists of two distinct components, the "TV Server" and the "Client". When we refer to MediaPortal we are typically talking about either the client only, or the whole suite. When we talk about the TV Server, we will name it specifically.

The MediaPortal installer can be downloaded here.

MediaPortal (Client only)

This type of install is for a machine that only uses MediaPortal to view content. This can be a singleseat system or a standalone Client.

1. Download and run the MediaPortal Installer.
2. Chose "Install now".
3. For the option "Use MediaPortal to Watch TV?", Select "Yes".
4. Next, click the "Advanced Installation" option.
5. Select "MediaPortal client".
6. Continue with the installation.

Once the install is finished, move on and install ARGUS TV.

MediaPortal (TV Server only)

This type of install is for a machine that only uses MediaPortal as a "Recorder" for ARGUS TV. This can be the Server, or a standalone Recorder.

1. Download and run the MediaPortal Installer.
2. Chose whether to install now, or only download the components so MediaPortal can be installed later.
3. For the option "Use MediaPortal to Watch TV?", Select "Yes.
4. Next, click the "Advanced Installation" option.
5. Select "Dedicated TV-Server (master)".
6. Continue with the installation.

Once the install is finished, move on and install ARGUS TV.

MediaPortal (both Client and TV Server)

This type of install is for a machine that uses MediaPortal as both a "Recorder" for ARGUS TV and a "Client" to view content. This machine could be a singleseat system, a Server, or a Recorder-Client combo system.

1. Download and run the MediaPortal Installer.
2. Chose whether to install now, or only download the components so MediaPortal can be installed later.
3. For the option "Use MediaPortal to Watch TV?", Select "Yes.
4. Continue with the installation.

Once the install is finished, move on and install ARGUS TV.

ARGUS TV

The next step is to install ARGUS TV. This will install several components, including (optionally) the MediaPortal plugins if MediaPortal is installed.

There are several install types available, all of them are fully configurable after selection. See Modules and Setup Types for more information.

Server/Client

1. Download and run the ARGUS TV Installer.
2. Select the "Server/Client" install type.
3. Double check the components to be installed.
   • If you are using MediaPortal TV Server, ensure it is selected.
   • If you don't want ARGUS TV Recorder, deselect it now.
4. Step through the installation process.
   • The next steps vary depending on the modules you chose to install.
   • If you have installed MS SQL Server with the default settings, choose "Windows Authentication" when asked for SQL credentials.
   • If you intend to use MySQL as installed by MediaPortal, the login credentials are User:sa Password:MediaPortal.

Standalone Server

1. Download and run the ARGUS TV Installer.
2. Select the "Standalone Server" install type.
3. Double check the components to be installed.
   • If you are using MediaPortal TV Server, ensure it is selected.
   • If you don't want ARGUS TV Recorder, deselect it now.
4. Step through the installation process.
   • The next steps vary depending on the modules you chose to install.
   • If you have installed MS SQL Server with the default settings, choose "Windows Authentication" when asked for SQL credentials.
   • If you intend to use MySQL as installed by MediaPortal, the login credentials are User:sa Password:MediaPortal.

Client

1. Download and run the ARGUS TV Installer.
2. Select the "Client" install type.
3. Double check the components to be installed.
   • You may wish to include the ARGUS TV Scheduler Console and/or ARGUS TV Recorder Console. These will allow you to configure the ARGUS TV instalation on the Server, from the Client machine.
4. Step through the installation process.
   • The next steps vary depending on the modules you chose to install.

Important If you are reinstalling ARGUS TV, you will be asked to uninstall the previous installation. This is normal and safe to do. The uninstaller will ask if you wish to do a "Full uninstall". * Selecting NO will keep all your channel mapping, Recording history etc. * Selecting YES will delete everything including channel mapping and Recording history. Do not select this option unless you are sure. This cannot be undone.

Note to MediaPortal users: If the installed version of MediaPortal is different than the version ARGUS TV was tested for, you will receive a version warning. Installation is still possible, however results cannot be guaranteed. If in doubt, check the forums.

Windows Media Center

The ARGUS TV plugin for Windows Media Center can be found here.

To install, simply download the installer .msi from the project site and run it.

Please note: The ARGUS TV MediaCenter Client plugin, while still in development, is perfectly usable in the current state. Development cannot progress without feedback, so you are strongly encouraged to give feedback about the plugin in the forum.

XBMC

XBMC already contains the ARGUS TV plugin, so may be installed at any time. There is no need to reinstall ARGUS TV if you alter your XBMC instalation.
