Troubleshooting

We had some reported issues concerning jitter and damaged frames, recordings were of very bad quality, whereas EPG grabbing and scanning were working well. This applied to different card models of PCTV.
Thanks to users within the ARGUS TV Forum, we see them as solvable, but, of course, we can't give any guarantee if this solves YOUR problem.
Mainly, your problem may have TOW root-causes - please refer also to the section ICN WIKI INLINE.PNG [Frequently Asked Questions#After a certain time of recording, I get glitches, bad blocks and asynchronous sound|After a certain time of recording, I get glitches, bad blocks and asynchronous sound] of the FAQ.
A brave user found out, that PCTV sticks tend to claim the whole power supply as specified for USB ports (500mA). As built-in ports share the same power supply for several ports, this may in consequence lead to a loss in voltage and current for the attached devices.

The solution for several users was to

  1. Have the USB stick connected directly to the PC without an extender cable
  2. Use another USB port of the PC
  3. Try connecting with or without USB hub (if used)
  4. If none of the above helps you out, use an ACTIVE USB Hub (active means, with own power supply)
  5. If still no success - did you connect other USB devices to that hub, too? Use it dedicated just for the stick, please.
    1. How? Here's the user's description: "In Device Manager you can expand the USB Controllers section and then double-click the various USB Hubs and you should then be able to see which devices are using USB power from the Power tab. Basically all I did was search through the USB hubs in device manager until I found the one that was powering the PCTV stick, then I rearranged the USB devices in the various usb ports so that the PCTV stick had a whole 500mA USB hub to itself. These instructions should apply to windows 7, it would obviously be slightly different in other versions of windows."
