Macros & Templates
Basically the technique behind a Template and a Macro is the same on the ARGUS TV Wiki server: it describes a text & formatting replacement on HTML source code level when a page is displayed.
We understand a Macro as a static replacement of a predefined token, e.g. {{ATV}} will convert to ARGUS TV when displayed.
A Template allows a bit more flexibility and it consists of a Pair of Macros or a section to copy and paste into your article, usually a starting section or macro and an ending one. The difference to a macro is indeed, that you can adjust and/or fill in your text or other tokens, like images, files, etc., in between, to get useful content.
E.g. the Template {{RED}} My Text {{/RED}} will convert to My Text .
You see the difference...
Using Templates & Macros, allows us to keep some things and styles standard. Templates are quick to type, and any updates made to a template takes immediate affect throughout the whole ARGUS TV Wiki; this prevents the need to edit many pages for maybe minor edits.
Thus you should try to use as often Macros as possible.
Remark: Please do NOT alter Macros or Templates already defined and be careful with new definitions without addressing it to our Wiki Contributor's Forum. |

{{TAGS}} / {{/TAGS}} block Adding invisible search tags eg {{TAGS}}XBMC PVR Frodo{{/TAGS}} |
you see nothing, even not through selecting: XBMC PVR Frodo | Use this macro pair at the bottom of your article. It implements search tags for your article that are used by search engines as Google, Yahoo, etc. Tags, that you should add (copy & paste) by default when using the macro pair (there IS the need for you to explicitly mention them as search engines read raw data only): Argus "Argus-TV" ArgusTV ATV "A-TV" ForTheRecord 4TR "For The Record" Scheduler Recorder Console If you want to tag expressions or words with a minus like "Argus-TV", use this between a pair of "". The separator between your tags should be a space character Do NOT use macros within this block like {{{ATV}}}, as the search engines read the raw site data. Try to cover also common spelling mistakes like "adress", "acces", "resources", etc. |
