About

The ARGUS TV Messenger allows you to chat with your ARGUS TV system, so you can ask what it is currently doing, consult the upcoming recordings or the TV guide, get notified of alerts, etc...

You will even be able to schedule recordings, although it will be far easier to use ARGUS TV Web Access in most cases.

To set this up, you will need two Windows Live (MSN) accounts. Your own personal account (which you may already have) and a new dedicated Windows Live account for the ARGUS TV Messenger service. You can create Windows Live accounts ICN WEB INLINE.PNG here. Make sure both accounts are activated and can log in to Windows Live Messenger.

Setup

To use the ARGUS TV Messenger, first the accounts must be configured. The easiest way is to use two different machines, and sign in into Windows Life Messenger, and make sure both accounts are able to see eachother, and are able to chat.

Next open the ARGUS TV Scheduler Console, go to the Settings section and set the login details for the Windows Live account you want the ARGUS TV Messenger to use. See ICN WIKI INLINE.PNG Messenger Settings for full details of setup.

Once the account is saved in ARGUS TV Scheduler Console, the ARGUS TV Messenger service will automatically pick it up, and after a few seconds you will see the ARGUS TV account signing in. If it does not work you may wish to confirm that the ARGUS TV Messenger windows service is running on your server (it should be autostarted)

Use

Now, you should be able to open a chat session with ARGUS TV. Type "help" or "?" and ARGUS TV will respond with an overview of possible commands.

In order to have ARGUS TV Messenger create a recording, you must follow a fairly strict procedure. First, search for a title, ARGUS TV Messenger will return a numbered list. Searching again for a number in the returned list will return a new numbered list of shows. It is now possible to use the record command to schedule the recording/s.
